The Open University defines complex welfare as personal circumstances that significantly affect your ability to study or manage day-to-day life. This may include:

  • Experience of Domestic Abuse/Gender Based Violence (that is having a current impact or is in the last 2 years)
  • Experience of severe debt/financial hardship or homelessness/unsafe living conditions together with other welfare issues.
  • Sexual Assault/Rape/Sexual Harassment/Harassment and Sexual Misconduct
  • Experience of current or recent stalking or harassment (within the last 2 years)
  • The impact of historic abuse, which you need support with.
  • Current or recent abuse (including - physical, sexual, emotional, neglect, financial)
  • Significant or multiple experiences severely impacting your welfare and wellbeing.
