What the Open University’s Student Welfare team can offer?
The Student Welfare Team provides tailored, compassionate support to students experiencing complex welfare or safeguarding concerns. Support may include:
- Individual one to one support
- Assistance with safety planning and risk assessments
- Referrals to external support services if required
- Short term or ongoing support sessions with a Welfare Advisor
- Guidance to help you identify and manage challenges while studying
- Working together to identify reasonable adjustments to help you continue your studies
- Liaison with university departments to support your academic success.
- Information about and the opportunity to explore external reporting options if this is something you would like to consider.
Who can access support?
Support is available to all students registered on Open University qualifications. We welcome and support students of all genders, sexualities, races, ethnicities, disabilities, religious beliefs, and backgrounds. We approach every student with care, empathy, and respect - supporting you as an individual.
How do I know if I have experienced Sexual Harassment and Misconduct or Domestic Abuse/Gender Based Violence?
If you’re unsure whether what you’ve experienced is sexual harassment, misconduct, or domestic abuse, you’re not alone. It can be confusing and distressing. You don’t need to have all the answers before reaching out.
